Maruti Baleno: Sleek, Silent, Spirited

Sushma Rana betters own National mark
AMIT SHARMA

PHILLAUR, DECEMBER 13: CISF shooter Anjali Vedpathak had to call on her experience in the 50-metre rifle three position semis to quell the challenge of Deepali Deshpande (Maharasthra) by six points in the National Shooting Championship today. Anjali's teammate Kuheli Gangulee struggled to clinch the bronze.

Earlier Jaspal Rana's sister, Sushma Rana of CISF, bettered her previous National record by four points in the junior section. She had set the record of 560 points at Bangalore early this year.

Going into the final with 570 points, the experienced Anjali shot steadily and took an easy lead over Deepali with five perfect tens followed by 9.9, 8.9, 9.6, 10.6, and 9.5.

In the Sports pistol event, Sushma narrowly missed the previous National record (664.80) that stands in the name of Kunti Malik established in 1994.
