Grandpa sues boxer Moorer
PITTSBURGH:
Michael Moorer's grandfather is suing the former heavyweight champ for up to $ 6.9 million (approximately Rs 30.36 crore), claiming he didn't get what he deserved for guiding the boxer's amateur career as a trainer.

Moorer beat Evander Holyfield for the IBF and WBA titles in 1994 but was knocked out by George Foreman later that year. At issue at the trial in federal court are contracts signed in 1986 and 1988.

Lifter tests positive
BUCHAREST:
Romanian gold medallist Razvan Ilie tested positive for an anabolic steroid at last month's World Championships where he broke the world snatch record, the Romanian Weightlifting Federation (FRH) said.

``Ilie tested positive with methandienone and he was automatically banned,'' FRH president and national team coach Nicu Vlad told Reuters. ``If a second sample also tests positive, Ilie will have to return the gold he got in Greece.''

Rudi to stay
JOHANNESBURG:
Umpire Rudi Koertzen will not bewithdrawn from the England-South Africa Test series despite admitting he made mistakes in the drawn second Test.

The South African will stand, as scheduled, in the fifth and final Test at Centurion Park from January 14, South African Director of Umpiring Brian Basson said.

ICC proposal
ADELAIDE:
The International Cricket Council has set out on an ambitious plan to secure television and sponsorship rights to its showcase event. ICC has called for tenders for what it terms a ``bundle of rights''. The bundle is made of: 1. Exclusive TV rights to the 2003 World Cup (in South Africa) and 2007 World Cup (in the West Indies). 2. Exclusive sponsorship rights to both World Cups. 3. TV rights to the ICC Trophy, which is held every four years between the associate members to determine which one qualify for the World Cup. It also includes the under-19 World Cup in 2003.
