PM meets Cong leaders on CTBT
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

NEW DELHI, DEC 17: In a bid to evolve a consensus on the question of signing the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), Prime Minister A B Vajpayee on Friday began the first of the series of consultations with opposition parties by meeting a Congress delegation headed by Sonia Gandhi.

``It was a candid discussion covering all aspects of the issues relating to CTBT. A briefing on technical, political and international aspects of the issue was given by the Government,'' External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh told reporters after a two-hour meeting at the Prime Minister's Race Course Road residence.

He said Gandhi told Vajpayee that she would reflect on the issues involved with her party colleagues and, if necessary, seek clarifications from the Government or another meeting with the Prime Minister.
