MUMBAI, DECEMBER 17: A Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Acts (MPDA) detenue escaped from police custody while being taken to a toilet at Dadar early Friday morning. While on his way to the Sessions Court in connection with a murder case, Rafiq Bashir Khan alias Feroz told the police escort that he wanted to answer nature's call. No sooner was Feroz taken to a nearby public toilet, than he pushed the constable and disappeared in the busy bylane at Dadar (East).
Khan, who was arrested from Kolsewadi in Kalyan, was detained under the provisions of MPDA before being lodged at Nagpur Central Jail. He was escorted to the city on Thursday night to face trial in connection with a murder case in Session's Court.
Police sources revealed that the police escort and gangster Bashir spent last night at Maharashtra police guest house on Lakanshi Napu Marg at Dadar. He was brought to the city under heavy police escort, sources revealed.
It is still not clear why Khan was kept in a police guest houseinstead of a police lockup.
