Swimming coach suspended

CHENNAI: Veerabhadran, attached to Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu and official coach at Velachery Swimming Pool, was suspended on December 10, for allegedly misbehaving with a 11-year-old girl triathlete.

Veerabhadran is a familiar name in swimming circles for he was the man behind triathlete champion C Amutha's success in her early days. But, of late, it is learnt that there has been a lot of whispering about the coach's handling of his wards. It is learnt that the girl's parents had first informed Solomon, Sports Officer at the swimming pool, but he seemed to have taken the issue lightly. Finally, a written complaint reached the hands of the Member Secretary of SDAT, who ordered an oral inquiry before issuing the suspension order.

The suspension letter has been sent by registered post and the outcome is to be known in two weeks' time, according to SDAT sources.
