6 city residents killed in mishap

ALIBAG, DECEMBER 25: Six people were killed and two injured when the jeep in which they were travelling fell into river Nidi near Nagothane on the Mumbai-Goa highway on Saturday.

Police said the accident occurred when the jeep driver lost control over the vehicle and it plunged into the river after hitting the railings of the bridge across the river. The vehicle carrying two families and was proceeding to Mumbai from Sangameshwar.

The deceased were identified as Anita Sansare (49), Amrit Sansare (22) (both residents of Borivali), Kanta Shere (65), Sandesh Luman (46), Shraddha Luman (44) and Tanvi Luman (10), all residents of Malad.

The injured, including the driver, were discharged after first aid at the Nagothane Primary Health Centre, police said.
