Dangs peaceful
UNITED NEWS OF INDIA

GANDHINAGAR, DECEMBER 25: The situation in the tribal-dominated South Gujarat district of Dangs was peaceful on Christmas Day as the Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Karveer Peeth in Kolhapur, Swami Vidyasagarji Maharaj, participated in a religious function at the Dandakeshwar Mahadev temple at Ahwa, the district headquarters town.

According to reports reaching here, heavy security arrangements had been made around the temple premises. About 500 people were allowed to be present only in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple for prayers and kirtans, even as prohibitory orders remained in force in the area.

After the function, the shankaracharya and his disciples left for their scheduled tour of different areas, the reports added. Official sources told UNI no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the South Gujarat districts of Surat, Dangs, Navsari and Valsad where the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and its allied organisations were active. On December 22, the VHP and Hindu Jagran Manch had organised a ceremony to lay the foundation stone of a Ram temple in Halmodi village of Surat district.
