
Bajaj scooter sales up 31 pc

MUMBAI, JAN 2: The two-wheeler major, Bajaj Auto Ltd's scooter sales in December 1999 has increased by 31 per cent to 71,581 compared to previous month on the back of its mega scratch card consumer scheme `Bajaj Crorepati Hungama'.It has achieved a growth of 20 per cent in December 1999 in the sales of Bravo, Legend, Chetak, Classic SL and super models compared to 59,837 scooters sold in the corresponding period in 1998.
``The growth in scooter sales during December 1999 comes as the finale to a very impressive performance in the last quarter of 1999 (195,351 scooters) wherein the company posted a growth of 12 per cent as compared to 174,425 scooters sold in the October-December quarter of 1998,'' R L Ravichandran, vice-president, business and product development said.
``Our strong performance has helped reverse the sliding trend in the scooter segment and also strengthened our market share in the process,'' he said. The firm also plans to launch another scheme.
