Baby Samuel offered free medical treatment and free edn apart from jewellery

THE millennium baby was born at the ESI Hospital here just seconds after bells chimed to announce the birth of a new era. She is the third daughter of Radhakrishnan alias Rajappan, a labourer with a small-scale engineering firm at Koratty, near Chalakkudy.

Rajappan and Mini are not euphoric about the birth of their third daughter. ``Bringing up three girls...you know,'' is all Rajappan, who earns about Rs 2,500 per month, would say. ``We don't even have any specific plans for our first two children, leave alone the newborn,'' he said.

``But it is a historic moment for the ESI Hospital,'' said gynaecologist Beenakumari, all smiles.

A son was born to Vijayakumar and Swapna at Dr Joy's Hospital, Vyttila, at 12.01 am through caesarean section. Vijayakumar is a farmer at Thiruvaniyur, near Piravom. Swapna works as an embroiderer. The birth was supervised by Dr Annie Joy and Dr Joy.

At the same time, a daughter was born to Latha C G and Dinesh R Shenoy at Chandrassery Hospital, Palluruthy. This was a normaldelivery supervised by Dr Bhama. The baby was the second child of the couple. Latha is a homoeopathic doctor and Dinesh a practising lawyer.

The millennium baby at the Medical Trust Hospital was born at 9.48 am. Christened Samuel, the baby boy was born to Daisy and Xavier. His parents working with Harrisons Malayalam Ltd.

A lot of offers are awaiting Samuel. The Medical Trust has offered a year's free treatment to the baby and his mother. The Toc H school has offered free education. Apart from this he will be getting toiletries from famous companies and jewellery.

The Varghese-Reji couple had the fortune of getting the first millennium baby in the district who was born at the Jubilee Mission Hospital, Thrissur. At one minute past midnight, Reji, wife of Nadathara Parambi Varghese, gave birth to a female child.
