Jones at centre of brain damage row

LONDON, JANUARY 10: Welsh boxer Barry Jones, who was banned in 1988 after failing a brain scan, is at the centre of a row over whether he should be allowed to continue to fight.

Less than a week before Jones challenges unbeaten Brazilian ace Lino Freitas for the WBO super-featherweight title, a controversy has been ignited in the British media. Jones lost his WBO title and boxing licence when he was found to have boxing-related brain damage in 1998. He was reinstated last year after undergoing another scan. A group of critics and medical authorities in England want Jones barred, The Sunday Telegraph reported on Sunday. Agencies
