UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, JAN 12: Dubai-based controversial arms agent Win Chadha, an accused in the multi-crore Bofors payoffs case, told a city court on Wednesday that he had filed an application for a passport in the Indian embassy there on January 9.In an application filed before trial court of Additional Sessions Judge Ajit Bharihoke, Chadha's counsel said the filing of the application in Dubai was delayed because all offices there were closed on account of Id-ul-Fitr.
The court had earlier issued a non-bailable warrant against Chadha in connection with Rs 64-crore kickbacks paid during the 1986 Bofors deal. On January 7, Chadha had filed an application in the trial court seeking time till January 11 to apply for an Indian passport. He had submitted before the court that he was unable to honour the 48-hour deadline as the office of the Consulate General of India at Dubai was closed for three days.
