Anju's family knew they were fighting
SMEETA MISHRA PANDEY

NEW DELHI, JAN 12: For Anju's family, the trauma began on Monday night itself. A few hours before Anju's death, her family knew that the Illyasis were having a serious fight and they tried their best to keep the situation under control.

``It was around 10 pm Monday that Anju's sister Rita Singh called up the Illyasis at IFS apartment and discovered that the couple were in the midst of a bitter fight,'' said a senior police officer. Rita lives in the United States and wanted to wish the Illyasis for Eid last night as she had not managed to wish them on the day of the festival. Rita spoke to Suhaib over the telephone but Anju did not come on line.

Suhaib told Rita that Anju was very angry and that it may help if their eldest sister Rashmi spoke to her. Rita then called up Rashmi in Canada and asked her to speak to Anju. Rashmi immediately called up the Illyasi residence from Ottawa. She spoke to Anju for a while. The sisters discussed the problems. Anju apparently spoke to her mother who is now living at Rashmi's home in Ottawa.

``However, when nothing positive came out of the telephone conversation, their father K P Singh who lives in Patparganj was alerted,'' said the officer. Singh called up Suhaib Illyasi who told him that he was rushing to the hospital. He did not say anything more on the telephone.

Singh rushed to Illyasis's Mayur Vihar house and found the door ajar. There was no one inside the house. ``He bolted the door from outside and reached the hospital,'' the police officer said.

At AIIMS, Anju Singh was declared dead. ``We are now waiting for the post-mortem report that will clearly state whether the wounds are self-inflicted or not,'' said an investigating officer.
