US Admiral meets Army,Air Force heads

NEW DELHI, JAN 12: Admiral Dennis Blair, the commander-in-chief of the United States Pacific Command, met Chief of Army Staff General Ved Prakash Malik and Chief of Air Staff Anil Yashwant Tipnis on Tuesday. This is the first visit by a top US armed forces official since the Pokharan nuclear tests, which chilled relations between the two countries for a year-and-a-half.

Admiral Blair has met Defence Minister George Fernandes, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sushil Kumar and Defence Secretary T R Prasad during his three-day India visit. ``We were just getting to know each other. Proper relations can only develop when the US lifts or at least eases major sanctions against India,'' sources said.
