BERHAMPUR, JAN 12: Three persons, including a woman and a child, lost their lives in the hands of a mentally retarded man at Kashinagar in Gajapati district at the wee hours on Tuesday.

According to police, an old man, P Lachhmeya, attacked and killed all the three using an axe. Malaswami, a victim, was running a small road-side restaurant at Kashinagar. The trio were sleeping near the restaurant when the assailant struck. After killing his victims, Lachhmeya hit his own head with the same axe injuring himself.

Police found the injured assailant sleeping on the bank of the river Vansadhara and arrested him. During interrogation he confessed that he committed the crime.
