Supreme Court stays work at Lalit Suri's Goa resort
SHIV KUMAR

PANAJI, JANUARY 17: The Supreme Court last week stayed construction of a five-star resorts at Rajebaug beach, Canacona. Acting on a petition by Goa Foundation, the court ordered the project's promoter Diksha Holdings owned by Lalit Suri, to maintain status quo at the site.

According to Claude Alvares, director, Goa Foundation, the site of the hotel was classified as Coastal Regulation Zone I by the union minister of environment and forests. However, the petitioner noted that a contour plan of the site which indicated the presence of ecologically sensitive sand dune was changed at the instance of the Chief Town Planner. The Bombay High Court at Mumbai which originally heard the case had dismissed the petition made by Goa Foundation.
