CBI probe -- Girl's kin hope to get justice

LUCKNOW, JAN 19: The UP Government on Monday recommended the case to the CBI for investigation.

``We have handed over the Meerut case to the CBI so that we cannot be blamed for investigating the case with our own men. Now it is for the CBI to investigate the case and take action against the guilty,'' V.K. Mittal, Principal Secretary (Home), told The Indian Express.

When contacted for his comments, Smita's father said: ``Now there is hope for some justice.''

While the police inspector involved in the shooting was arrested on Sunday, agencies added that another constable, Surinder Singh, was arrested yesterday, SSP R P Singh said. Efforts are on to nab the other constable concerned.
