Maruti Baleno: Sleek, Silent, Spirited

Promising future for golf in India
Joy Chakravarty

CALCUTTA, JAN 22: Witnessing the passion and enthusiasm with which some of the biggest names in Indian industries competed during the Wills Tolly Cup, one thing is for certain -- golf has a big future in India.

Vikram Singh Mehta, MD, Shell (India), is heading for another 18 holes after finishing his scheduled round. Thirty-six holes in a day is something which even the pros are wary of.

KM Mammen, MD, MRF Tyres, and Tarun Kunzru, MD, Adidas (India), were among those who played a couple of practice rounds before teeing off for the main event. Though the actual Wills Tolly Cup tournament ends on Saturday, the celebrations continue on Sunday with a nine-hole celebrity scramble, followed by a one-hour trick-shot show by Kevin Compare, a Miami-based, US PGA-registered player.
