Maruti Baleno: Sleek, Silent, Spirited

The Very Clubbable Sharmila Tagore

January 23: It happens in phases. Sushma Swaraj's term as Information and Broadcasting minister saw actress-cum-MP Shabana Azmi and producer and friend of Shatrughan Sinha, Pahlaj Nihalani, on film advisory panels. Now, it appears no one can get enough of Sharmila Tagore. The actress is part of the newsreaders' evaluation committee constituted in Doordarshan, along with Vice-Chancellor of the Indira Gandhi National Open University A. R. Khan.

Tagore is also part of the board of the Public Service Broadcasting Trust, jointly funded by the Ford Foundation and the Prasar Bharati Corporation. She is joined by Mrinal Sen, who was also rediscovered by this year's International Film Festival and made the chairman of the Asian Competition section; Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Aruna Vasudev, Rajiv Mehrotra (whose initiative it is), and the man who is very much flavour of the moment with Prasar Bharati, Kiran Karnik (Discovery CEO and part of the the three-member committee to review the functioning of Prasar Bharati).Someone said the word club?
