EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

MUMBAI, JAN 23: Thef Royal Western Turf Club (RWITC) suspended the bookmaker's licence of M/s Ram & Ram run by Mr Ram Dandekar, the president of the Bookmakers' Association of Western India (BAWI).

RWITC's decision comes close on the heels of the raids conducted by the Crime Branch on three bookmakers' stalls last Sunday. The raids had resulted in the crime branch seizing some documents which were handed over to RWITC authorities for further inquiries. Mr Dandekar, was called to appear before the Club committee on Sunday. He is being summoned again on Feb 2. His licence has been suspended with immediate effect.

The decision to suspend the licence of the BAWI chief's firm has sent shock waves to all the bookmakers.
