Wagon R priced at Rs 3.49 lakh

New Delhi, Feb 1: Maruti Udyog Limited today announced the prices of the Wagon R. The base version of the car is priced at Rs 3.49 lakh while Wagon R VX and Wagon R AX (automatic transmission) are priced at Rs 3.84 lakh and Rs 4.83 lakh, respectively.

With this pricing, Wagon R becomes the most expensive car in the small car segment. According to an MUL release, the payments for the Wagon R will be accepted at all Maruti dealerships with immediate effect and the dispatches will begin within one or two weeks as the production volumes build up. The Wagon R is powered by a 1.1-litre, 62 BHP, 16-valve, MPFI engine. It is apparently the largest selling car in Japan.

Compared to the Wagon R, Hyundai Santro's base version is priced at Rs 3.07 lakh (Euro-I). Santro DXi (with power windows) is priced at Rs 3.49 (Euro-I) while Santro DXii (with power steering) is priced at Rs 3.69 (Euro-I). The prices of all the three Euro-II versions of the Santro beginning from the base model are Rs 3.12 lakh, Rs 3.55 lakh and Rs3.75 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.

The four versions of the Daewoo Matiz, are priced at Rs 2.66 lakh (Matiz SS), Rs 3.04 lakh (Matiz SD), Rs 3.48 lakh (Matiz SE) and Rs 3.68 lakh (Matiz SP). However, Wagon R LX is priced below Zen VX E1 which costs Rs 3.52 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Both Zen Classic and Zen VXi E1 cost Rs 3.73 lakh while Zen VXi E2 is priced at Rs 3.93 lakh.
