Computer training made mandatory for NCP workers
PRADIP KUMAR MAITRA

NAGPUR, FEBRUARY 1: In a unique step, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has decided to make it mandatory for its active workers to undergo training in computers, informed the State party chief, Babanrao Pachpute.

Pachpute, who was here on Monday to address a youth gathering pointed out that such a training was essential in the 21st century as persons who would not have any knowledge of computers would be known as illiterates.

It was the NCP supremo, Sharad Pawar, who had insisted a few days back that his party workers should undergo training in computer. The party has even set up a computer cell. Besides computer cell, the party will have 21 other wings, including Seva Dal and trade union outfit.

"I want that active workers of the party in each district should undergo training in computer," Pachpute said and informed that his party would organise special computer training programmes for its workers.

Pachpute said, the NCP would launch a massive membership drive from February 14 for three weeks. Themembership drive would be formally inaugurated by Sharad Pawar from Baramati on February 12.

The party has targeted enrolment of at least 20 lakh members and 2 lakh active members during the three-week drive which would end on March 5 next.

The party has appointed observers in every district for ensuring smooth enrolling of membership. The party observers who were appointed in the region include: Santosh Korpe (Nagpur-rural), Rajabhau Thakre (Nagpur-city), Sunil Shine (Bhandara), Dr Govind Verma (Gondia), Anil Wadpalliwar (Chandrapur), Netaji Rajgadkar (Gadchiroli), Shravan Parate (Wardha), Gajanan Galu Guruji (Amravati-city), Nilay Naik (Amravati-district), Tukaram Patil (Akola), Gulabrao Gawande (Buldhana), Khwaja Beg (Washim-city), Rajendra Gode (Washim-rural)l and Pramod Wankhede (Yavatmal).

Answering a question, he justified the decision of the Democratic Front Government to make English a compulsory language in primary education in Maharashtra. He felt, it would benefit the students in competitiveexams.

To another question, he said the Congress-NCP Government would announce the new heads of state undertakings within the next couple of days.

Meanwile, N Kumar, a city builder and close associate of former Maharashtra minister Ganesh Naik, has been appointed as general secretary of the NCP, announced Pachpute. Kumar joined the NCP on January 29 at the divisional convention of the party, held at Kondeshwar in Amravati district.
