Timely intervention by cop saves woman from violent husband
NAGPUR, FEBRUARY 1: An alert constable came to the rescue of a 55-year-old woman who was at the receiving end of a brutal attack by her 62-year-old husband following a domestic quarrel at Nandanvan slums, Monday. The husband, Vinayak Bajirao Nikhare (62), was later arrested for causing grievous hurt while his wife, Sulochana, who sustained a stab wound to one of her arms, was removed to the Government Medical College. According to police, the incident could have taken a much serious turn but for the timely intervention by Constable Devrao Raut, who was on a patrol round nearby and who managed to overpower Nikhare when he was about to stab the woman in the abdomen. The incident occurred around 11 am when a quarrel ensued between the Nikhare couple over some domestic issue. Soon, an irate Vinayak started assaulting Sulochana. After dealing some severe body blows, the man picked up a knife and stabbed his wife in the arm. Constable Raut, who was on a patrolling nearby, was alerted about the matter by aresident of the locality and soon he rushed to the house of Nikhares and overpowered the violent hubby. Later, Nikhare's son, Moreshwar (21), lodged a complaint against his father and an offence of grievous hurt was registered. The Kotwali police were investigating.
