Mela scene -- Aamir to appear in court
LUDHIANA, FEB 1: Film star Aamir Khan, the protagonist of the recently-released Hindi film Mela, his brother Faizal Khan and Bollywood director Dharmesh Darshan have been issued summons to appear in a local court on February 28 following a civil suit filed by one Gurmail Kaur, widow of a former sub-inspector with the Punjab police. The orders were issued to the trio in the court of B.K. Mehta, civil judge, senior division, Ludhiana. Gurmail Kaur had filed the suit last fortnight, stating the movie had lowered the image of the police. She objected to a specific clipping of the film which shows a police officer consuming urine. She said there was a scene in the film which showed Aamir Khan and Faizal Khan, who play the role of a truck cleaner and driver respectively, drinking liquor. They then fill the empty bottle with their urine and gave it to a police officer (Johny Lever), wearing the uniform of a DGP. The officer drinks it, she added. Talking to The Indian Express, Gurmail Kaur said: ``I feltashamed to see a DGP consuming urine in the movie. Being a widow of a police officer who lost his life for the sake of the country, I feel the image of police officers is being shattered". Copyright © 2000 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
