Singhania win midget races; Devangi reaps gold
Express News Service

MUMBAI, FEBRUARY 1: Thane schools covered themselves with glory on the concluding day of the first Milo inter-school and junior colleges athletics meet organised by Thane Metropolitan Gymkhana at Dadoji Konddeo Stadium on Tuesday.

Leading the charge was Vedangi Raut of Shiv Samarth Vidyalaya, with two gold medals in the girls under-12 category. She won the long jump gold with 4.18m, much under the 4.27m she logged at the Ryan International meet recently, and then strode smoothly to the 600m gold.

JK Singhania School swept the feature events of the day, the boys and girls under-6 50m sprints. When the midgets ran, the heartbeats of their parents pounded in unison, and appeared to match the quickening pulse rates of their wards. In fact, the four under-6 and under-8 events saw the highest participation -- 240 in all.

Mukta Rawte of Queen Mary added the 100m and shot put golds to the 200m and high jump she won on Sunday. Athletes from OLPS, Chembur and Fr Agnel, Vashi did well, the latter producing thefastest boy of the meet, Prasad Nayak.
