Sant, Borkar lead IES out of danger
MUMBAI, JANUARY 18: Opener Prasanna Sant (53: 108b, 5x4) and captain Ninad Borkar (50: 102b, 5x4) helped IES New English, Bandra, post 218-5 against defending champions IES VN Sule Guruji on the opening day of the four-day final of the MSSA-Colgate Inter-School Giles Shield cricket tournament at the Elf Vengsarkar Academy ground, Oval Maidan, on Tuesday. Put into bat, the Bandra boys got off to a bad start losing opener Vinit Bhosale (0) with only eight runs on the board. However, southpaw Sant and Revankar (22) strung an 83-run stand to retrieve the situation. But leg-spinner Kinjal Patel struck a double blow by claiming Sant and Nishit Dhulap while left-arm spinner Sujay Mehta dismissed Revankar to put Sule Guruji back into the game. With IES, Bandra having lost three wickets for 13 runs, it was left to skipper Borkar and Ameya Waingankar (batting 45: 142b, 7x4) to rescue the side. Though Borkar fell after completing his fifty, Waingankar saw the day through with Amit Sawant (batting 24) in anunbroken alliance of 40 runs.
