Stuck on London eye

FEBRUARY 5: A group of British ex-servicemen were stuck in mid-air for 20 minutes aboard London's trouble-hit Millennium Wheel, British Airways, the attraction's main backer, said on Thursday. The incident, the result of a technical problem, happened on Wednesday as the giant ferris wheel, named the London Eye, was carrying 40 passengers, including several veterans, the press reported. ``This was not a safety issue and people in the capsules were delighted to get an extra 20 minutes on their ride,'' said a BA spokeswoman.

The 135-metre-high ferris wheel gives visitors spectacular views over London. The wheel opened for non admission-paying public rides this week and after a month of ``preview'' rides it will open ``properly'' at the beginning of March. The first 250 passengers, all prize winners, had been due to climb aboard on New Year's Eve but the event was called off amid safety fears.
