Govt licence for 8 pvt gateways
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

NEW DELHI, FEB 8: The government has approved proposals of eight internet service providers (ISPs) for setting up 25 international gateways across the country to ease internet traffic. The companies or societies who have been given in-principle clearance by the DoT include Software Technology Park of India (STPI), Sigma Input-output Technology, Dishnet DSL and Jain Studios, an official said.

Surprisingly, many big names such as Satyam Infoway, Wipro, Zee and Bharati-BT have not been given clearance yet. Many other applications were under processing, the official said, adding many would be cleared soon. STPI has been given clearance to set up as many as 12 gateways each at Bangalore, Noida, Bhubaneshwar, Hyderabad, Gandhi Nagar, Trivandrum, Navi Mumbai, Jaipur, Mysore, Manipal and Coimbatore. Sigma Input-output has been given permission to set up gateways in Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai.
