Cops lay hands on Satnam Shah's Swiss bank accounts
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

NEW DELHI, FEB 8: Delhi Police has so far detected eight bank accounts, including some in Swiss banks and about a dozen properties in India of retired Wing Commander Satnam Shah, who along with his daughter, was arrested last week for allegedly possessing over 150 kg of charas.

The properties owned by him which police have been able to detect so far include a flat in Vasant Kunj, two flats in east Delhi, one house and a plot in Gurgaon, three properties in Mangalore and one house each in Goa, Pune and Mumbai.

Police officials, however, refused to give details about the bank accounts stating that it would hamper investigations at this stage. However, they did admit that there was a substantial amount of money in his accounts.

P. Kamraj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-west) said it was too early to comment as the verification process was still on. ``We have discovered several properties owned by him in the country and several bank accounts also. The interrogation is still on and we are in theprocess of verifying all this.'' The intelligence agencies are also probing the narco-terrorism angle as well as the fact that Shah may have been involved in defence deals.

Kamraj, however, maintained that they had yet to establish his involvement in defence deals. A senior police official admitted that the ramifications of the case were such that it was very difficult to say anything at this stage. ``All angles are being probed and we are sure that we will have a clearer picture in the next couple of days,'' said a senior police official.

The police also said the interrogation of both the accused clearly indicated that Shah was a ``liaison man'' for an international drug traffickers network. However, they have still not been able to find out who sourced the drugs and to whom they were to be delivered.

Police also conducted several raids across the city to effect more seizures and arrest his other associates. In the meantime, police has also started questioning Rajesh Bhardwaj, who according to Shahused to visit his house as an electrician and could have planted the contraband.

Shah and his daughter Priya, who were arrested on February 4 and produced before a city court the next day have been remanded to police custody till February 12.
