Radhika, Sewa surge into quarters

CALCUTTA, FEBRUARY 8: While Sewa, who won the previous leg, withstood a first set resistance before disposing off Yu Hin Tung of Hong Kong 7-5, 6-0, Dhrub Kumar sailed past wildcard entrant Nipun Gupta 6-3, 6-4.

Raian Luchici of Romania spanked fifth seed Amanjot Singh 6-2, 6-0 in a surprisingly one-sided contest. The other seed to fall was eighth seed Harshit Sharma, who was shown the door by Kamala Kannan 6-4, 6-3.

Second seed P Ravikrishnan prevailed over M Akhundjanov of Uzbekistan 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 to move into the quarter-finals.

In the girls singles, the top two seeds sailed in to the last eight stage.

Top seed Radhika Tulpule and second seed Shuai Peng of China defeated Vishika Chhetri 6-2, 6-0 and Sharmistha Chowdhury 6-1, 6-0 respectively. However, third-seeded Anna Shoupak of Uzbekistan was beaten by Samrita Sekhar 3-6, 1-6, while Ragini Vimal was crushed by Nandita Chandrasekhar 6-0, 6-1. Reedhina Parekh fell to fifth-seeded Geeta Manohar 6-7 1-6.

In the boys doubles, the top seeded pairVinod Sewa and Harshit Sharma were beaten by Arun Prakash and Benjamin Xavier 2-6, 4-6.

In the girls doubles, Regini Vimal and Nandini Perumal came back from a set down to beat Rati Kumar and Lata Assudani 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.
