Bangla President stresses on joint Indo-Bangla defence research
DHAKA, FEBRUARY 9: Bangladesh President Shabuddin Ahmed has lauded the existing level of defence ties with India and stressed the need for greater cooperation between the two sides in the field of defence research. The President, the supreme commander of Bangladesh armed forces, said this when visiting chief of Indian Air Force Air Chief Marshal A Y tipnis paid a courtesy call on the former at the presidential palace on Tuesday. Ahmed said as close neighbours and members of SAARC Bangladesh and India have maintained good brotherly ties, which have extended to defence co-operation. He recalled India's help in the formative stages of the Bangladesh Air Force and its contribution to its later development. Since then, the President noted both countries have continued defence co-operation, including training facilities by India to Bangladesh officers. The existing ties, he said, may be strengthened further by exploring new areas of co-operation, stressing the need for exchange of visits of officials fromboth air forces. Tipnis expressed the hope that bilateral cooperation between the two air forces would further expand in the future. Tipnis, who arrived here on Monday on a four-day visit, also paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office in Dhaka on Tuesday.
