Express News Service

Kochi, Feb 15: Thrissur received a boost in its preparations for the National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy when they were awarded FC Kochin's home match against Indian Telephone Industries, Bangalore in the National Football League to be held on February 21.

This was conveyed to the Kerala Football Association on Tuesday by Albert Colaco, chairman of the NFL committee. The match will be played at the Municipal Stadium, Thrissur at 4 pm.

Kochi was the venue of FC Kochin's all home engagements and the club have played four matches at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium here. Since the stadium was allotted to the one-day cricket international between India and South Africa, the organisers had started work at the Ambedkar Stadium, the alternate venue here.

Colaco had inspected the facilities at the Ambedkar Stadium and left the decision to the emergency committee of the NFL. At the same time, the League committee had suggested Kollam and Thrissur as possible venues. The KFA, had a coupleof days ago, informed Colaco that Thrissur could host the match if Ambedkar Stadium was found wanting.

FC Kochin's two matches against Goan teams Dempo on February 8 and Salgaocar on February 14 had been postponed.
