Norman survives Schalken scare

ROTTERDAM, FEBRUARY 15: Third-seeded Swede Magnus Norman came off worst in a second-set tie-breaker with Dutchman Sjeng Schalken, but came out a 6-2, 6-7 (7-4), 6-3 1st round winner at the $ 750,000 Abn Amro Indoor Tennis Tournament.

It turned into a good day for Sweden when qualifier Jonas Bjorkman upset fourth seed Nicolas Lapentti (Ecuador) 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 in the day's final match.

HANOVER: Ruxandra Dragomir and Patty Schnyder have eased into the 2nd round of the $ 533,000 Faber Grand Prix Tennis Tournament. The sixth-seeded Romanian beat Karina Habsudova (Slovakia) 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) on Monday.

Schnyder (Switzerland), seeded eighth, dispatched wildcard Raluca Sandu (Romania) 6-2, 7-6 (7-1).
