Paes cruises, Fazal loses
CALCUTTA, FEBRUARY 15: Top seed Leander Paes moved into the singles pre-quarter finals in the Indian Oil Servo Cup ATP Challenger Tennis Tournament outplaying Dimitri Tomashevich 6-4, 6-1 in straight sets while unseeded Roberts Damien of South Africa stunned second seed Oleg Ogorodov of Uzbekistan 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) at the South Club courts here on Tuesday. Though Paes looked a little sluggish in the first set, he found his rhythm as the match progressed after the rivals held serves till the ninth game. Paes broke Dimitri in the 10th game to win the first set in 36 minutes. In the second set, Paes broke Dimitri in the second and fourth games to win set in just 26 minutes and clinch the issue. In the pre-quarter final, Paes will meet Lior Dahan of Israel. Dahan defeated Thomas Anzari of Czech Republic 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in his opening round. The other Indian who made it to the pre-quarter final was Vishal Uppal, who defearted Stefano Cobolli (Italy) 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Uppal will now meet Aisam Kureshi(Pakistan), who defeated Jonathan Erlich (Israel) 3-6, 6-4, and 7-6 (7-3). Indian Davis Cupper Syed Fazaluddin made his exit in the first round after putting up a great fight against Mose Navara of Italy 7-6, 7-6.
