Sena men held for attack on cable operator

FEBRUARY 22: A former Shiv Sena corporator Jaywant Parab and vibhag pramukh Shailesh Phanse were arrested for stabbing and injuring a cable operator at Oshiwara on Monday. Both have been booked under Section 307 of IPC (attempt to murder).

On February 16, seven men had attacked Pravin Dabholkar when he was walking near Dinanath Housing Society, Oshiwara. The assailants struck him on the head and face before escaping. He was rushed to Lilawati Hospital, Bandra, where doctors said his condition was stable. Sources said Dabholkar had incurred the wrath of a rival cable operator over distribution of sectors. The victim had got into a brawl with his rival at Juhu Galli recently, sources added.

Collections from cable transmissions is a multi-crore business at Oshiwara and the adjoining areas of Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri. There are more than 200 residential buildings in the area and each subscriber pays Rs 100-150 per month.

Some politicians have, with the help of local goons, allegedly succeeded in cornering the lion's share of the income arising from the subscription, sources said, adding that the relatives of such goons have been used as a front to collect money.
