Case against ex-chief of Board of Studies and nine others
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

PUNE, FEB 22: Police have registered offences against 10 persons, including the former chairman of the Board of Studies of Maharashtra State Secondary and Higher Secondary Board, for allegedly recommending a textbook containing `insulting references' to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and thus `promoting enmity on religious grounds'.

Police said the cases were registered on Monday under Sections 153 and 505 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) following a complaint filed by the secretary of the State Education Board, Mahadav Jadhav.

The 10 persons were appointed members of the Board of Studies by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary Education, Pune in 1994 and had been assigned the task of recommending textbooks for Standard XI.
