Ganguly appointed one-day captain

MUMBAI:Saurav Ganguly has been appointed as the new Indian captain for the one-day series against South Africa and the three nation tourney in Sharjah, while Mohammed Azharuddin and Sadgoppan Ramesh have been included in the Indian test team for the second test against South Africa to be played in Bangalore from March 2 to 6 in place of Ajay Jadeja and V V S Laxman.

Abducted Jatti traced in Mumbai

BANGALORE:Channabasappa Jatti -- grandson of former vice-president, B D Jatti -- who was missing from here since Wednesday, has been traced in Mumbai, according to family members. The sources said the 25-year-old web designer telephoned from Mumbai on Saturday and told them that he was kidnapped, but could not escape from his abductors. Family members said Channabasappa would return here on Saturday night or Sunday.

AIBEA withdraws strike

MUMBAI:The nation-wide strike by seven lakh bank employees owing allegiance to the All Indian Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) on February 29 has been withdrawn following conciliation proceedings held by the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central) on Saturday.

According to the terms of understanding arrived at between Indian Banks Association (IBA) and the AIBEA, issues pertaining to distribution of revised pay scales and allowances, including dearness allowance, HRA and CCA, would be expedited in two to three weeks time, AIBEA general secretary Tarakeshwar Chakraborti said in a statement here.
