Michael Caine has learned to perfect the loser's smile at the Oscar ceremony
British actor Michael Caine on Sunday said he has learned to perfect the loser's smile at the Hollywood Oscar ceremony -- as all good actors should. Caine has been nominated five times for an Oscar -- the latest for his acclaimed role as an abortionist in Cider House Rules. "I have been there three times and lost. And the one time I didn't go I won (in 1987 for Hannah And Her Sisters). I don't know what to do now," he told Sir David Frost on BBC Television. "What I've decided is that I am going to go there. I don't mind if I lose. I would rather be there and lose than not be there and win," he said. But had he perfected the smile of the gracious loser? "I have that off pat. I have done that three times. So I know how that feels. It doesn't feel great, mind you." "But if you are good enough to be a nominee, you should be good enough to smile," he added.
