Not broke enough for new cars

MUMBAI, MARCH 19: With a deficit of more than Rs 54 crore, the State Government has resorted to borrowing money from financial institutions. The Reserve Bank is likely to dole out Rs 24 by way of overdraft. According to local press reports the CM even resorted to borrowing Rs 15 crore from the Calamity Fund to tide over the crunch.

But then as a politician living and running a Government on life-support provided by some very mobile legislators, Sardinha has his priorities quite clear. Keep them happy at any costs. So the Cabinet will dump a dozen roadworthy Maruti Esteems in which the ministers move in and replace the vehicles with the latest Balenos from the Suzuki stable.

One person who won't be getting a new car will be leader of the Opposition Ravi Naik who enjoys Cabinet rank. His crime? Cribbing about the CM blowing up public funds on unnecessary luxuries!
