Impasse over PCMC panel's post continues
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

PUNE, MARCH 30: A section of corporators in Pimpri-Chinchwad who have intensified their demand for reducing the tenure of the mayor's post to one year, have decided to abstain from voting during the election of the standing committee chairman.

Dnyaneshwar Bhalerao, who was one of the prime aspirants for the post of mayor, said so far 19 corporators including nine of the Nationalist Congress Party, have resolved to abstain from voting.

Meanwhile, for the third time this month, the stalemate over the election of standing committee chairman of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) remained unresolved Wednesday on account of a tie for the election of provisional chairman for conducting the meeting.

The fate of the two candidates, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)'s Sham Valhekar and NCP rebel Shreerang Barne, will now be decided at a special meeting to be convened before April 15.

It is the first time the Standing Committee chairman will be elected at a special meeting.
