Karunanidhi reelected party chief for 8th time
UNITED NEWS OF INDIA

CHENNAI, APRIL 8: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M Karunanidhi was on Saturday reelected as the party president in the organisational elections held here. This is Mr Karunanidhi's eighth consecutive election to the party post.

He had been the executive president of the DMK since 1969 when the party post was created. His was the only nomination received by the election officers at Agniraj, MP, for the top post.

DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan and treasurer Arcot N Veerasamy were also unanimously reelected to the post.

Karunanidhi accepted the party post and announced nominations of three deputy general secretaries - one from general quota, one from Dalits and one for woman - as against one post at present. The party constitution had been amended in this regard.

While Nanjil K Manoharan was reelected as deputy general secretary under the general quota, State Minister K Sundaram and Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan, MLA, were nominated under Dalit and women quotas respectively.
