Delhi to have more colleges
UNITED NEWS OF INDIA

NEW DELHI, APRIL 25: The Delhi Government proposes to open more colleges in the Capital for computer education, hotel management, law, pharmacy, tourism and engineering which will give admission to about 6,000 students, education Minister Dr Narendra Nath said.

This will prevent at least Rs 10 crore from going out of Delhi to states like Karnataka and Maharashtra which provide admission to students from the Capital.

Inaugurating a three-day career counselling seminar `Focus' organised by the Urivi Vikram Charitable Trust (UVCT) and SSLNT Gujarat Senior Secondary School, Dr Narendra Nath said Information Technology had been introduced as elective subject in some Government schools and would be introduced in more schools shortly. This was aimed at making Delhi a cyber city, he added.

Also, a Bill had been passed in Delhi Assembly where Hindi has been given the status of rajya bhasha in the Capital while Urdu and Punjabi have been accorded the status of second language, Dr Nath informed.

During the seminar, students from about 20 participating schools will interact with professional and technical experts in various fields including computers, finance, travel and tourism, para-medical, ITI/polytechnic, hotel management and eengineering. An exhibition on various career options is also on.

The Education Minister also released a publication Kishoron Ki Komal Duniya brought out by the UVCT. Those who spoke on the occasion included U N B Rao, Additional Commissioner of Delhi police, and chairman of UVCT.
