I want maradona to start my match, says matthaeus

MUNICH, APRIL 27: Argentine football legend Diego Maradona will kick off the May 26 testimonial match for German veteran Lothar Matthaeus -- if Matthaeus himself gets his way.

``I can well imagine it doing him good to be among players from his sporting past who've admired him for years,'' Matthaeus added of the ailing former star undergoing therapy in Cuba for a cocaine habit.

During his own career of a world record 146 international caps, Matthaeus was twice a direct opponent of Maradona in World Cup finals -- in 1986 when Argentina won, and in 1990 when Germany won. (DPA)
