PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

JAMMU, APRIL 30: Police has seized a huge cache of arms and explosives, including 15 bombs and a rocket, in Rajouri and Akhnoor areas of Jammu division, official sources said here today.

The recovery was made from a militant hideout during a "Seek and Destroy" operation conducted by the police in Dodasan Bala area of Rajouri district yesterday, the sources said.

Arms and explosives seized included fifteen bombs of 81 mm, two Chinese pistols, four magazines, 40 rounds of ammunition, four (HE-36 make) grenades, four magazines of AK type rifle along with 60 rounds and eight time devices.

However, the militants managed to escape from the hideout before police had raided it, the sources said, adding that the seized weapons belonged to the Lashker-E-Toiba (LET) outfit.

In another incident, a 107 mm rocket was recovered by police near the bank of river Chenab adjoining Siderwan village in Akhnoor yesterday, the sources said.

Fitted on the embankment, it pointed towards Akhnoor town, not more than 100 yards from the border.

Police has registered a case in this connection and investigations are on, they said.

Meanwhile, BSF troops detected and defused a landmine concealed in almunium utensils and planted on a road on Kandi-kotranka yesterday.

The mine was planted by militants to blow up BSF vehicles moving in the area, the sources said adding no one was arrested in this connection.
