Advani visits drought-hit in Gujarat
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

AHMEDABAD, APRIL 30: Union Home Minister L K Advani today visited the drought affected areas of Patan and Surendranagar districts to assess the extent of the drought situation in Gujarat.

Advani, who arrived here from New Delhi this morning, left for Patan by helicopter to take stock of the drought which gripped parts of the state this year due to failure of the monsoon, official sources said here today.

The Home Minister met the drought hit people in the areas and enquired about relief works undertaken by the government with a view to provide employment in the affected areas, sources added.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel has criticized the opposition, particularly Congress, for making baseless allegations to defame the BJP government instead of extending cooperation to provide help to drought affected people and cattle in the state.

Speaking at a programme for a water supply scheme at Laliyna village of Bhachau taluka of Kutch district yesterday, the Chief Minister said despite the rumours being spread by the opposition, the state government continues to enjoy the support and cooperation of the people to tackle the drought situation in the state.
