CB-CID probe ordered into death of TMC worker
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

CHENNAI, MAY 11: The Tamil Nadu Government had ordered a CB-CID probe into the mysterious death of a TMC worker at Thirubhuvanam in Thanjavur district on May 7, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi informed the State Assembly today.

Replying to points raised by members of various parties on the death of Haridas, he said the man's brother, a TMC trade union leader, had first lodged a complaint with police, stating that his brother had been kidnapped.

After his brother's body was recovered from a tank in the village, he filed another complaint, alleging that Haridas had been murdered by ruling partymen.

Police had registered an FIR on the incident, he said. He denied the Opposition charge that police was acting in a partisan manner and had not take action on the atrocities committed on Opposition partymen. Earlier, C Gnanasekaran, the TMC whip, said an altercation between a TMC worker and a DMK man had led to the murder. If police had taken action on the TMC complaint on May 4, the murder could have been avoided, he said.

S Ramalingam (DMK) said the incident was being politicised by Opposition parties. The CPI, CPI-M And AIADMK members demanded a full-fledged enquiry into the incident.
