Alec Stewart was recalled to the England one-day squad

LONDON, JUNE 20: Alec Stewart was recalled to the England one-day squad on Tuesday for a one-day triangular series with West Indies and Zimbabwe starting on July 6. Wicketkeeper Stewart replaces Chris Read, who played in the series with South Africa and Zimbabwe this year.

His Surrey team mate Graham Thorpe, who was unavailable for the winter tour of South Africa, has also been recalled while Nottinghamshire all-rounder Paul Franks and Worcestershire batsman Vikram Solanki have been included in a senior squad for the first time.

"Alec Stewart has been in prime form this season and his selection will help strengthen our batting and ensure continuity in the wicket-keeping position when the Test series resumes against West Indies," said chairman of selectors David Graveney.

"With regard to our batting we need an experienced player in the middle order who can either take advantage of a good start or rebuild in the middle of an innings and Graham Thorpe is ideally suited to this role. We also wanted to include some younger players in order to build for the future. Paul Franks and Vikram Solkani have both been in excellent form this season and we expect them to compete for places in our starting lineup."

TEAM: England: Nasser Hussain (captain), Nick Knight, Graeme Hick, Alec Stewart, Graham Thorpe, Vikram Solanki, Andrew Flintoff, Craig White, Mark Ealham, Paul Franks, Robert Croft, Andrew Caddick, Darren Gough, Alan Mullally.
