Gawli asked to approach cops for escort
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

NAGPUR, JUNE 29: A division bench of the Mumbai High Court has directed notorious gangster Arun Gawli to approach the concerned police station for seeking escort for him at his cost after his release.

Justice S P Kulkarni and Justice P S Brahme, while hearing a criminal writ petition of Gawli demanding police protection to him in Mumbai or Pune after his possible release from Thane prison, did not issue any specific order yesterday but advised him to request the police in this matter.

The police station would then consider his request after assessing the need and gravity of threat to him as per the laid-down norms, the court ruled.

Being a leader of a political outfit, Akhil Bharatiya Sena (ABS), he was apprehending danger to his life from his rivals, while going home from prison, Gawli said in his petition.

Earlier this month, the high court had quashed his detention under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activites (MPDA) Act.
