Mayfair Golf
MUMBAI: Leading golfers from the corporate world will pit their skills against each other at the Willingdon Sports Club, over two days June 30 and July 1 for the Mayfair Trophy.

The Mayfair Trophy, sponsored by Ravi Ghei's Mayfair Rooms, is a unique venture because it will be the first golf tournament, played in Mumbai in the monsoon.

The tournament will be played in the Stableford format, and, according to Major Inder Dhaul, chairman of the golf committee, Willingdon Sports Club, in the case of heavy rains, the golfers will have to complete at least eight holes, from which their scores will be computed over the remaining holes.

Tyson summoned
LONDON: Mike Tyson has been summoned before the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) to explain his actions in the aftermath of his 38-second demolition of Lou Savarese at Hampden Park.

Tyson, threw several punches at the stricken Savarese after referee John Coyle had stopped the fight on Saturday and then launched into a tirade of abuse at Lennox Lewis.

Saddler on top
ATHENS: Gregory Saddler of the United States was the surprise winner in the men's 100 metre dash on Wednesday in the Grand Prix Tsiklitiria 2000 international competition at the Athens Olympic Stadium.

The relatively unknown Saddler led all the way taking the event in 10.08 seconds beating out Trinidad-Tobago's Ato Boldon who clocked 10.11s.

Malaysia may host
CHENNAI: The simmering ethnic problem in Indonesia might force the change of venue of the Asian Track and field athletics championship, Amateur Athletic Federation of India (AAFI) secretary Lalit Kumar Bhanot said.

The event slated for Aug 3 to 6 in Jakarta is now likely to be held in Malaysia. The Asian Confederation meeting in Bangkok on Saturday will take a decision on the shift of the venue.

Schools' TT team
CHANDIGARH: The School Games Federation of India announced a 10-member team which will participate in the Asian School Table Tennis Championship to be held in Hong Kong (China) from July 11 to 17. SGFI president CL Negi said the team was selected during the coaching camp which began in Shimla on June 5. The camp will continue and the team will leave on July 10.

Team: Mittesh J Puranik (Maharashtra), Somnath Ghosh (West Bengal), Ankur Mahajan (Maharashtra), Pathik Mehta (Gujarat), B Kashipra (Maharashtra), Kantur S Madhuri (Karnataka), Guia Sapta Parni (West Bengal), Susmita Roy (West Bengal).

Bhavani Mukerji (SAI Patiala) and Kavita Roy Chaudhri (West Bengal) will accompany the team as coach-cum-manager and coach respectively.

Women get bronze
NEW DELHI: Indian women won a bronze medal while the men's team finished fourth in the second round of the Asian Archery Championship held in Chinese Taipei from June 21 to 26.

According to Archery Association of India (AAI) president Vijay Kumar Malhotra, the women's team beat Philippines 227-221/270 pts in the Olympic round to claim the bronze.
