Mayfair honours for Curmally
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

MUMBAI, JULY 2: Heavy rains and overcast conditions did little to deter the enthusiasm of the 200-odd golfers who battled it out in the Mayfair Golf Tournament at the Willingdon Sports Club. The course withstood the pounding from the elements admirably, allowing the first monsoon tournament to be completed on schedule.

The two-day tournament was teed off by Subhash Chandra Goyal, Zee Network head honcho on Saturday. Ravi Ghai, the sponsor of the tournament, and a keen golfer, finished as second runner-up in the gold division (19-36 handicap) with 36 points, losing out to VP Gokhale (also 36 points) on the last seven holes.

The winner of the gold division was M Curmally with 44 points.

The Mayfair Trophy, for players with a handicap between 0-18 was won by HJ Thackersey, who tallied 40 points. He was followed home by NK Mehta with 39 points.

Rani Maheshwari stroke the ball to 195 yards to complete the longest drive among the ladies, while this honour fell to Jamshed Mehta among the men, who hit the ball 265 yards.

The best gross score among the ladies was credited to Sulkashana Chaugule (33 points), while VK Chauhan tallied 26 points to bag the award in the men's section.
