2 schemes to solve I-T problems to be launched

NEW DELHI, JULY 13: In a bid to make the tax administration people-friendly, the government will launch two schemes from August 1 to help the assessees in solving tax problems.

Announcing this, Finance Secretary Piyush Mankad said the schemes would be called `Suvidha' and `Sahayatha' to provide better "facility" and "assistance" to income tax and corporate tax payers.

These schemes follow the three schemes launched last year by Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha - `Samadhan, samman and saral' to unlock Rs 52,000 crore locked in litigation, recognise honest taxpayers and simplify procedures.

Under the Suvidha Scheme, Mankad said all computerised branches of public sector banks would accept income tax payment from August 1. This facility is now available in some branches and it would now be extended to all computerised branches.

Under the Sahayatha Scheme, a pilot project would be launched in Delhi on August 1 to help and assist income tax and corporate tax payers. Two separate cells will be created at the income tax office for income tax and corporate tax assessees. They could approach the cell for redressing their problems.

Presently no such facility is available and tax assessees find it difficult to get their tax problems resolved. If found successful, the scheme would be extended to other metropolitan cities and ultimately a website would be created.
